STAFF REPORT
Maryville Daily Forum

Law enforcement agencies, including Maryville Public Safety, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department and the Northwest Missouri State University Police Department, are working to prepare a coordinated response to a protest rally scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, outside the Nodaway County courthouse.

The event is the result of a widely reported Kansas City Star investigation into alleged sexual assaults committed during a house party attended by Maryville High school students in January 2012.

Maryville Public Safety Director Keith Wood said in a prepared statement that an estimated 2,000 people are expected to show up for the rally, which is being organized by the Internet “hacktivist” organization Anonymous.

“We feel it is important to provide information to you to ensure a safe event,” Wood stated. “Our primary unified objective will be to serve you as a business owner in the city of Maryville as well as the event participants.

“Some plans to create a secure environment will create a significant inconvenience, and we apologize in advance. However, please understand that we are taking precautionary measures in your best interest.”

The release stated that parking on the square will be prohibited beginning Tuesday afternoon, a restriction that will continue for the duration of the event.

Vehicular access to the square will be banned beginning at 1:30 p.m., and various adjoining blocks may be opened or closed as circumstances dictate.

In addition, Wood urged downtown property owners to secure their buildings in the event of any perceived threats from the crowd. He added that law enforcement officers from multiple agencies will be deployed in and around the square as needed and will respond to citizen requests for assistance.

Anyone with questions should call Maryville Public Safety at (660) 562-3209.

Misinformation Coming From Facebook #OpMaryville #Justice4Daisy

A Facebook page called Justice For Daisy Coleman is spreading misinformation about Daisy’s rape.

This is what was in the “about me” portion of the page:

image

I personally have never heard Daisy say she was drugged. The only thing close was “she drank a clear liquid.” Alcohol (Bacardi) was recovered from the Barnett residence.

She made it clear to her knowledge she was not drugged.

Also here:

This was brought up to the admins of the page and they did take the “drugged” portion out.

This was part of the Kansas City Star article:

Bacardi was recovered from the Barnett home with other bottles of “clear liquids”

Drugs weren’t found. Her BAL at 9am the next morning was still 0.13.

Please disregard misinformation going around. If it’s not confirmed with science or the words of Daisy, her mom, Paige, or her mom it’s misinformation.

We don’t need all the rumors stated to be taken as facts.

Please follow @justice4daisy or @opmaryville for current and correct information. None of the actual facebook pages are legit. Only the Justice4Daisy Event Page

To also be clear: I’ve never lived in Maryville.

#opmaryville Missouri family becomes target in small town after teen says she was raped

A Missouri woman says her family was run out of a small town and their home burned down mysteriously after her teen daughter accused a high school football player from a prominent local family of rape, according to a local report.

Melinda Coleman moved to Maryville from Albany, Mo., three years ago looking for a fresh start after her doctor husband was killed in a car wreck in 2006.

But the new life she was building with her four children in the rural, tight-knit town turned into a nightmare after her daughter Daisy, a 14-year-old freshman at Maryville High, accused a popular football player of raping her while she was drunk, the Kansas City Star reported in a bombshell story written with the family’s cooperation.
